A comment in Arutz Sheva

I placed the following comment under THIS opinion piece in Arutz Sheva. I don't know if they'll publish it, but they have kindly allowed me to leave comments of somewhat similar nature in the past.

The president of the Islamic Republic (what you refer to as “Iran”) is a lunatic, like his smiling predecessor, Mullah Khatami. "Ignorant" is the author of this article, and Edwin Black.

He writes, "History remembers that in 1935, the name Iran superseded that of Persia." Consult with any historian of your choice, ANY, and you’ll learn that Iran has been Iran for thousands of years. The name change in question refers to Iran’s request that OTHER COUNTRIES call Iran by its actual name. Funny how you note this “name change” to fit it into your revision of history, but fail to see the significance of the Islamists’ actual changing of the name Iran to “the Islamic Republic of Iran.”

Furthermore, the Anglo-Iranian Oil Company may have contributed to the rise of the Third Reich, but the Anglo-Iranian Oil Company was a BRITISH controlled company; it was not controlled by Iranians. Anyone even slightly familiar with the events that led to the nationalization of Iranian oil would know that.

Khorshid, from Sarbazekuchak blog.

To the readers of this blog:

Dear readers, I don’t have to remind you of the countless number of articles written by self-proclaimed “Mossadeghists” who attack our institution of Monarchy, day and night, for the events in 1953, following the nationalization of Iranian oil under Dr. Mossadegh’s initiative and under the supervision of our King, Mohamad Reza Shah Pahlavi. Where are they now? Why are they silent? Do THEY not know that the Anglo-Iranian Oil Company was a BRITISH controlled company?

JTA, Shame on you

To the editors of the Jewish Telegraphic Agency:

I wish to convey my utter disgust in regards to your decision to publish Edwin Black’s “Despite Holocaust denial, Iran seen to have worked with Nazis”, and ask whether you yourselves believe the statements made therein.

To begin with, Iran is not “a nation named after Hitler’s master race.” Iran has been “Iran” for thousands of years, long before Hitler and the idea of “the master race” were born. To realize the falsehood of Black’s statement all you intelligent editors had to do was to consult with a historian of your choice.

Regarding the person of Reza Shah Pahlavi, were you not troubled at all by the absence of a single reference or source in Black’s article?

Exactly how would a person with an iota of intelligence infer from Reza Shah’s decision to retain German technical assistance in Iran’s development projects that he was “a stalwart admirer of Hitler, Nazism and the concept of the Aryan master race”?

Khomeinists and Islamists call Reza Shah Pahlavi “a Jew”; you call him a Nazi. Shame on you. I say from the bottom of my heart, really, truly, shame on you.

You owe your readers an apology for publishing falsehood. You owe your Iranian readers an even greater apology.

A response to...

The Ignorance of Thomas L. Friedman: Will the NYT Apologize?
By Shirin Neshat of Sarbazan

FAX: (212) 556-3622.

Letters to the Editor
The New York Times
229 West 43rd Street
New York, NY 10036

Dear Sir (s):

I duly noted Mr. Thomas L. Friedman's op-ed piece to the New York Times dated December 23, 2005 and entitled, "A Shah With a Turban." Mr. Friedman is quite correct in his various criticisms of the Presidency of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and the regime of the Islamic Republic of Iran (IRI). Unfortunately, he displays an insulting and shocking ignorance of Persian history in equating the reign of Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi and the Pahlavi Dynasty with the thuggery of Mr. Ahmadinejad and the theocratic Mullahs behind the latter's dubious election this past June. This is the obvious implication and intent behind his article's ill-chosen title.

Mr. Friedman notes the repressive character of the IRI regime in Iran, and its systematic eradication of human rights and political _expression there in the shutdown of reformist news publications and the disqualification of legitimate political candidates by the Council of Guardians and other totalitarian elements of the theocratic regime in Tehran. What he does not tell his readers is that he himself was a supporter of the anti-Shah student protestors in Washington, D.C. in the 1978-79 time frame, promoting and legitimizing the activities of the Islamic Student Association and Mr. Ebrahim Yazdi. Are you now happy with what you and Jimmy Carter have brought to the nation of Iran, the Middle East, and the entire world, Mr. Friedman? Or is it time to begin singing from a different page while disguising the ugly truths of the past with revisionist history?

Mr. Friedman is a Jewish-American with very cordial relations with the government of Israel and the American neo-conservatives allied with it. Surely he knows that Shah Mohammed Reza Pahlavi's government enjoyed diplomatic relations with Israel that involved mutual trade relationships and reciprocal travel arrangements between Tehran and Tel Aviv. More importantly, the Shah was an avowed enemy of terrorist factions in the region that were targeting Israel, and kept Iran out of the political crossfire of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. How does this equate in any sense of the word with the provocative anti-Semitic statements and stated desire of Mr. Ahmadinejad to "wipe Israel off the map?" Or the documentation recently provided by Toby Harnden, the Chief Foreign Correspondent of the British Telegraph, that the IRI's newest excuse for a President is recruiting legions of Iranian children to be employed as suicide bombers against American and Israeli interests wherever possible? And is Mr. Friedman aware of the historic and ideological linkage between the Peacock Throne and the reign of Cyrus the Great of Achaemenid Persia 2,500 years ago? Shah Mohammed Reza Pahlavi was well aware of the role of Cyrus in issuing a royal declaration allowing the Jews of the Babylonian Diaspora to return to their homeland, a fact recorded in the Jewish Old Testament. He was also proud of the Declaration of Universal Human Rights issued by Cyrus on a cylinder now housed by the British Museum. This lineage has nothing, I repeat nothing, to do with the simian government of the IRI regime, or its Chief Baboon, Mr. Ahmadinejad, who was not legitimately elected--but hand-picked by the Supreme Leader of the IRI, Mr. Khamenei--and ratified by a transparently fraudulent electoral process.

And now, people like Mr. Friedman are wringing their hands over the Russian-aided Iranian nuclear program headed in the direction of a full-blown acquisition of the nuclear fuel cycle and the enrichment of uranium. Does anyone believe that the staunch anti-Communism and pro-American stance of the Pahlavi Dynasty would have ever permitted this brand of Russian subversion in Iran and the Middle East to happen?

The IRI regime and its President have wrought much for the world to see: economic stagnation; an 8 year Iran-Iraq War which cost over 2 million lives; the repression of human rights generally and the rights of women specifically; the implementation of a theocratically oriented, State-controlled educational system; the systematic execution of minors in Iran; the routine denial of legal due process of law for the accused; and the possible introduction of a nuclear conflict in the Middle East before the end of 2006.

And all courtesy of the Thomas Friedmans and Jimmy Carters of the planet, whose role in pulling the rug out from under a true friend of the United States and the West, has introduced this great tragedy into the history of the world, a tragedy not yet fully unfolded in time.

Shirin Neshat

=======================

Dear Banoo Neshat,

The Shah of Iran, often described as "pro-West", was in reality pro-Iranian.

To the likes of Friedman, Sciolino, Beeman, Ignatieff, Ebadi, Mehrangiz Kar and other "liberal" appologists of neocolonialism, that was and remains an unforgivable crime.

What they want are full time NOKARS and servants.

I can't tell you why now, but please visit the blog tomorrow.

The sudden fondness for music and the arts among “reformers”

“During Khatami's eight-year stint as president over 300 newspaper, magazines and other journals were closed down and over 3000 journalists, intellectuals and university teachers imprisoned for varying lengths of time. Khatami also established a black list of Iranian and foreign authors that contained more than 4000 names. The list of works banned, including some by a number of Iran's greatest classical poets, was even longer.”

--- “How long can Ahmadinejad pedal?

The Islamic puppet republic’s placement of a very candid Shiite by the name of Ahmadinejad in the presidential seat has been of great advantage, in so far as it did away with the camouflage provided by the western endorsed smiling anti-Iranian terrorist Ayatollah Khatami. However, given the daily reaction of the so-called “reformists” to Ahmadinejad, and the manner in which that reaction is disseminated by the west, it is more and more suggested to me that the selection of Ahmadinejad could equally turn out to have been greatly useful for the Islamic Republic!

Need I elaborate further when I say that the “reformists’” criticism of Ahmadinejad, unlike that of those at war with the murderers ruling our country, is in reality self-promotion, and the endorsement of such criminals as Rafsanjani and his protégé Mullah Khatami? All one needs to do is to visit their countless weblogs and websites.

With this in mind, read THIS ARTICLE on the recent news of the “banning of music” (there having been dancing and music in our streets from 1979 until 2005) by “Iran’s Hitler”.

Interview with Ilan Berman

Interesting interview with the author of Tehran Rising. He says,

“We're not concerned over Iran's nuclear program, per se, or we shouldn't be, because the nuclear program actually predates the Islamic Republic. It started in the late '60s and early '70s under the shah. We knew all about it, and we weren't worried. We are worried about this regime getting a nuclear capability, and it has everything to do with the fact that this is the world's leading state-sponsor of terrorism…”

I truly hope that other Americans share this view. Many, it seems to me, do not---i.e. They see Iran, not merely the Islamic Republic, as the danger. After all, why else did they help sustain the anti-Iranian regime?

The day the music died?

That, minus the question mark, is the title of an article in the Chicago Sun Times, regarding the REINSTATEMENT of the ban on music in occupied Iran.

The phrase is a figurative one, used by various writers in reference to a tragic loss or event.

But given the Islamic Republic’s record since its conception in 1979, one of which the editors of the CST, or the writer of the article in particular, are not likely to be ignorant, could the phrase “the day the music died”, could this phrase have been used in a more absurd, ignorant, or oblivious manner?

Instead of launching an English-language television station “to counter” Western propaganda, the Islamist Republic has every reason to continue welcoming it.

U.S. terror victims want Iran antiquities

The consequences of calling the anti-Iranian Shiite mafia apparatus "Iran":

CHICAGO, Dec. 13 (UPI) -- A group of U.S. victims of a Jerusalem terror bombing wants to seize Iranian antiquities at the University of Chicago for their pain and suffering.

Two years ago, the group won a $71 million judgment against Iran for injuries in a 1997 Iranian-linked suicide bombing in Jerusalem. Iran has ignored the ruling, and the victims are now going after ancient clay tablets dating from about 500 B.C., held by the university's Oriental Institute.

However, the institute is fighting the group, saying that setting a precedent by turning over the antiquities to the victims could endanger U.S.-owned museum pieces on loan to other countries, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.

The U.S. Justice Department has sided with the University of Chicago, saying because the artifacts are being held "solely for research and study, and are not used by Iran for commercial activity in the United States, they are also not available for attachment" under law.

An article in Safa Haeri’s IPS

This is how Safa Haeri begins his latest article in what he calls “Iran Press Service”:

PARIS, 12 Dec. (IPS) “…. He is viscerally anti Jew, anti West…This is rooted in his education, his fascination for Hasan al Bana, Gamal Abdol Naser and third worldism, the founder of the Muslim Brotherhood, the late Egyptian leader and the movement that once was the flag ship of developing nations… and above all his total and fanatic belief in Shi’a doctrine”, said an Iranian journalist who knew Mr. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad from the time he was Mayor of Tehran, commenting the islamo-populist Iranian President who, in less than four months destroyed all the credits – and respect -- his predecessor, Mohammad Khatami, a charismatic cleric, had obtained painfully for Iran during the eight years he was in office October.

No, your eyes are not deceiving you. You read correctly: All the “credits and respect,” emphasis on respect, that the “charismatic cleric” (meaning the always-smiling anti-Iranian Shiite terrorist) Mullah Mohammad Khatami had obtained “painfully” for Iran---for “Iran” no less!---has been destroyed by Ahmadinejad!

So far as characters of Safa Haeri's ilk are concerned, political prostition has no boundaries.

Russian patriarch, anti-Iranian terrorist discuss interfaith dialogue

MOSCOW, December 12 (RIA Novosti) - The head of the Russian Orthodox Church and the Iranian parliamentary speaker met in Moscow Monday to discuss interfaith dialogue.

Patriarch Alexy II and Islamic Consultative Assembly Chair Gholam-Ali Haddad-adel praised the work of the joint Russian-Iranian commission for Islamic-Orthodox dialogue. Alexy II said it was "an exemplar of mutually beneficial cooperation" proving that "together, we can counter attempts to impose secular values all over."

"I believe Orthodox Christians and Muslims are united in their desire to prevent the construction of a unipolar world order, which would enable the imposition of certain political and cultural patterns across the globe," the Russian patriarch said.

Political Islam vs. Democracy

The Bush Administration's Deadly Waltz with Shiite Theocrats in Iraq and Muslim Brotherhood Fanatics in Syria, Egypt, and Elsewhere

By Robert Dreyfuss
November 29, 2005

This is one of those articles that I would call a "must read."

Like most Iranians opposed to the anti-Iranian Islamic Republic ("fascist" in my opinion would be a compliment, not to mention besides the point), I of course supported President Bush during the 2004 elections. Given the US President's nominal support for the people of Iran and the Democrats' decades long record, starting with JFK, of open animosity against the same, it was not a difficult decision. But the expectation that by supporting Bush we additionally abandoned our duty to criticize, even condemn, actions or policies that we perceive as ill-conceived or plain wrong, seems to me rather astonishing.

16-16th of azar-Shahriar Shafigh-Shahryar Shafiq 1

16th of Azar: In Memory of an Iranian Prince

Remembering Prince Shahryar Shafigh on the 26th anniversary of his assassination by the Shiite Taliban.

Around one o’clock in the afternoon, on December 7th 1979 (16th of Azar), Shahryar Shafigh, an officer of the Imperial Iranian Navy, was shot twice and murdered while leaving his mother (Princess Ashraf Pahlavi)’s Paris flat. The two bullets that hit his neck and head were discharged from a 9 mm handgun fired by a hit man riding a motorcycle, who fled the scene after committing the murder.

An anonymous caller soon took responsibility for the assassination, declaring that Prince Shahryar had been killed as “an enemy of the faith” and for aiding “international Zionism,” ending the phone call with a “Long Live Khomeini!” Meanwhile in Tehran, in a public bulletin, Mullah Sadegh Khalkhali announced that the members of Fedayeen of Islam had been responsible for the act, adding: “If we can’t arrest members of the Pahlavi family, we will murder them all.”

Shahryar Shafigh was the first Iranian assassinated by the agents of the Islamic Republic outside Iranian soil. He had remained in Iran until the Iranian government was overthrown, leaving the country with the help of his compatriots in the navy only to avoid imminent capture. After leaving Iran he began widespread activities to overthrow the Islamist Republic, wishing to take advantage of his popularity among naval forces to prepare the grounds for the overthrow of the anti-Iranian puppet regime. It was for this reason that he was marked for elimination.

The royal title of Shahryar Shafigh was “Vala-Gohar”. He was the son of Princess Ashraf Pahlavi, the twin sister of Mohamad Reza Shah Pahlavi. Having the most altruistic characteristics, he was a very popular figure, especially in the Imperial Iranian Navy. According to those who knew him, all his life Shahryar Shafigh never refrained from aiding the poor or from providing for the needy, considering these acts as his life duties. When informed of the financial difficulties of honorable people through his confidants, he would distribute among them a large portion of the money he earned as an officer. Although he was the child of one of the most powerful women in Iran, he was neither arrogant nor haughty, but lived happily among his people.

Shahryar Shafigh was Captain and Commander of the Imperial Iranian Navy’s Hovercraft fleet. Although his name is carefully avoided, in fact never mentioned, by the “Persian Gulf is Persian Gulf” campaigners, he was in fact the commander of the special forces that liberated the Persian Gulf islands of the two Tonbs and abu-Musa.

For another perspective on 16 of Azar, go to RaheTudeh/Peiknet to read the following article:

١٦ آذر: پيامی تاريخی، كه نبايد اجازه تحريف آن را داد

They neglect to mention it---because to them, and "republicans" like them, History remains number one enemy--- but the perspective is, interestingly enough, that of those who once chose the above mentioned Mullah Khalkhali as their presidential candidate!

If only the dead could speak

What better place to hold a memorial for Mohamad Mokhtari and Mohamad-Jaffar Pouyandeh (both victims of the 1998 “serial murders”) than in their butchers’ house of worship, "Imamzadeh Taher" Mosque!!! Are they remembering or mocking the dead?

But then again, what else is expected of supporters of Akbar (I-can-write-political-dissertations-while-in-coma) Ganji and Nasser (Carter-is-my-leader) Zarafshan, who mark the anniversary in this spot annually.

If only the dead could speak.
